North East Border Collie Association - NEBCA

The North East Border Collie Association is a non profit club supporting the breeding, training, farm use and trialing of working border collies. The NEBCA region consists of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. NEBCA sanctions trials in these areas and promotes training opportunities.

Our Mission

The mission of the North East Border Collie Association is to promote and protect the Border Collie as a working stock dog through the sanctioning and regulation of competitive herding trials and by providing information on training, health and breeding.

The History of NEBCA

In the sixties and early seventies, there were at most a dozen sheep dog trials in the northeast. The best attended ones depended on the presence of handlers outside New England, men like the Pulfer brothers, George Conboy, Lewis Pence, Thurman Platfoot, Paul Coy, Carroll Schaffner, and, later on, Bob Childress, Ivan Weir, and Jim Bob McEwen. The Border Collie

No one is really sure when the working sheepdog became a fundamental part of keeping sheep on the huge open hills of the border country between Scotland and England. The dogs were certainly basic to the economy of this area by the 18th century and by the end of the 19th century the sport of dog trialing had become widespread in not only this area but across the British Isles.
